Keep Omaha Beautiful is participating in America Recycles Day on November 15th, a nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling!
Recycling is an important step to reducing waste, and it can make a big impact on our planet.
Not only that but learning to recycle the right way is key. Just because something is placed in the recycling bin, doesn't mean that it will be recycled. Check out OmahaRecyclesRight.org to learn more.
But we want to challenge you to go further.
Join us for a 24-Hour Zero Waste Challenge and commit to reducing, reusing, and recycling everything you consume in one day to avoid creating waste.
Pursuing zero waste will make you aware of everything you consume, purchase, and use on a daily basis, and how often these things end up in the trash...and that is our goal, to get you to think about waste differently!
Making a complete switch in 24 hours is challenging, but we are asking you to join us in pursuing progress, not perfection.
To help you get started, we created 3 rules of thumb to guide you throughout the day.
Want to go the extra mile?
- Compost it. Food waste does not break down properly in a landfill and produces harmful methane but it can be transformed into an organic fertilizer if properly composted. Learn how to start composting at home from Hillside Solutions.
- Save on Secondhand. Need to purchase something new? Check to see if you can instead opt for secondhand, you’ll save that item from going to the landfill and some money.
So mark your calendars and join us on November 15th!
Let us know what waste was hard to avoid and what you ended up with at the end of the day.
Was it harder than you thought it would be?
What were some of the things that surprised you?
Will you take what you learned with you to reduce your waste in the future?
